System Overview
Implemented with the Mutable Plugin, the Player Customization System I developed in Cure allows designers and artists to easily add new customization options and styles without requiring engineers to modify the system code to adapt to any changes.
Feature Details
-
The Mutable Plugin uses blueprint-style graphs to structure Customizable Objects. By using visual scripting, it lowers the barrier to entry for designers and artists granting them quicker and easier control over the customization options and styles. Alongside this, I developed the UI, Save Data, Multiplayer code to dynamically handle any changes made within the graphs. When new options are added, the system include them seamlessly. When options are removed, the system will automatically remove and/or exclude them where necessary.
-
The UI dynamically generates through a custom tag system I designed and implemented using the Mutable Plugin’s conveniently available UI Metadata for parameters inside a Customizable Object’s graph. Each parameter can be labelled with tags that inform the UI how the parameter should be displayed. By building the UI to use components that correspond and format themselves based on the tags, designers can simply label any option/parameter with the desired tags and the option will be displayed accordingly. After the initial creation of the UI components, the designers can re-format, re-organize, and make other basic changes to the UI without additional engineering work.
